Bench jewelers are the beating heart of the jewelry industry. They are the ones behind the scenes, making, repairing, advising, and innovating. Bench jewelers are often masters of the craft, doing everything from repairing an earring to building a new piece of jewelry. Of course, a bench jeweler can also be:
- A designer
- A custom jeweler
- A studio or art jeweler
- A production manager or worker in any size production facility
Interestingly, in the United States, our bench jeweler tradition is a bit different than in other parts of the world. For example, in Germany, one might be a metalsmith (goldsmith, silversmith) or a stone setter, but not usually both. In the United States, our Bench Jewelers take great pride in being able to handle every aspect of building and fixing a piece of jewelry.
Next time you have a piece of jewelry repaired, send your thanks to the bench jeweler.
