Sometimes, you'll hear your jeweler refer to him-or-herself as a "bench jeweler." That can mean several things. Here are some of the places you'll find bench jewelers:
- Making jewelry other jewelry companies from their own shop.
- Working in jewelry stores, doing repairs, custom jewelry, and appraisals.
- Designing jewelry that they produce on their own, one at a time.
- Designing collections of jewelry that they produce with the help of a production assistant or a small production team.
When you meet jewelers who describe themselves as "bench jewelers," ask them what kind of work they do! We think you'll be surprised at how many talented jewelers live in or close to your community.
